By asmurffJune 16, in Ammunition. I was able to see the difference between the two very clearly. I shot 2 target of each with the same results.
Just want to put my 2 cents in on this topic. Have noticed multiple instances with the Federal bulk packs being really hit or miss in terms of quality and ease of use. The shots consistently sound crisp and the same. My experience with the federal ammo has been terrible. They leave the breech and barrel filthy and actually make my girlfriend nervous. We went to the range today and shot some of the CCI we had left from the last time, about rnds and had no problems.
We were out of that so opened a pack of the federal stuff and within rnds were already having lots of problems. Our time at the range was over after we had a round FTE and i couldn't safely get the dang thing out with the tools on hand. Tatum told me straight up she wasn't going to shoot anymore of the Federal ammo anymore so don't buy it. I have to agree with her, it's just not worth the irritation. So if you guys are ever in a toss up between the federal and the CCI Got about rounds of Blazer through my with 0 malfunctions or FTF.
When it gets warmer I am going to do some consistency texting with my Chrono. I used to like automatch but it has been hit or miss lately. Not really any feed or FTF problems but very inconsistant velocity. Which is unsettling when in a match. Ive been using only Federal in my gsg AK i my wife brought me rounds of cci minimag for Christmas plus the box she brought me before i now have rounds of cci and a federal box, iam going to be going to the range Monday to shoot my Mosin in its standard config but while iam there ill also shoot cci and federal with my AK and post how they compare in that.
Looks to be quite a few different results in this thread. I don't use CCI much, just because of the cost vs bulk ammo, and the for me modest difference in accuracy. I can get Federal for. As for the residue after shooting, I have not noticed much difference between the two - I will have to pay more attention to that, I guess.
I just figure that since the primer material contains ground up glass, all.Walmart 11,200rd Bucket O' Bullets 2 Case .22LR Ammo Score 4/9/16
I think it was someone here at Tac. Have not done that, but there is a difference of. But then, it IS bulk ammo. My favorite. The FTFs that I took apart showed the primer material had cracked and mixed with the powder. I've noticed that with the CCI's I've had less failure to fires and better accuracy too. Many duds and also bent or distorted cartridges in the box. It was a every other magazine in the CMMG. Going thru a box for 4 magazines sucks. Any other Colt-owners out there experience this?
Hmmm, trying to ream the chamber for problems with one box of subsonic ammunition seems a bit drastic to me. Since the rifle is spec'd for standard and high velocity ammunition onlyand subsonic tends to be slightly less powerful than standard, I would suspect the action is short cycling. You might try loosening the recoil spring as far possible, or try some different brands of subsonic ammo. I have shot standard velocity ammo with no problems and good accuracy at 35 to 40 yds, but the groups start to open up at 50 yds, so I tend to stick with HV ammo.

Federal Byob 22lr 1100
The ammo comes in two flavors: grain lead round nose rated at FPS muzzle velocity, and grain copper-plated hollow point rated at FPS. Naturally, the HP stuff is being marketed for hunting and the plain lead bullets are intended more for target work. I decided to try both loads in two handguns and two rifles, all equipped with open sights. For this chore, I selected the following:.
I began by firing the rifles at 25 yards. I shot round groups with each load in each rifle, resting at a bench but nothing fancy just propped up the forend on a gun rest. As expected, I had no functioning problems with the rifles. The Remington Nylon 66 is an excellent little rifle and is the most reliable 22 semi-auto rifle I have ever fired with any ammoand the old Winchester is a pump gun, about as reliable an action as you can get.
I fired four round groups at 15 yards, again resting but not to any extreme. Accuracy was perfectly acceptable with the GSG giving my the tightest group, with the 38 grain HP bullets. While firing these groups, the GSG did fine, but the Ruger hiccuped with the grain ammo. After firing at the paper target, I decided to fire sets of 10 aimed shots at a small steel flipper target. The GSG did well with the grain ammo, but the grain groceries gave me some static.
The gun failed to fire the second round, and later on I experienced this stovepipe:.
22 Long Rifle (LR) Ammo
After this, I stoked up the GSG mag with grain rounds and fired it rapidly. No problems.
I repeated this test with grain ammo in the same gun, and again had no trouble. I went back to the Ruger, firing aimed shot strings. While I had no trouble with the grain ammo, I did have two stovepipes with the grain ammo. Both looked identical:. A rapid-fire test with the Ruger proved that while it likes the grain ammo fine, the grain loads cause indigestion.
The third grain round pulled this trick:. I like this ammo, but as we have learned, not all of my poppers do. What to make of all this? Referring to their claims as stated in my earlier postis it more accurate than their older bulk-packed ammo? Federal also says the loads are ballistically matched so you can zero your rifle with the Range load and expect the same point of impact when hunting with the Field load.
And comparing the centers of the groups I fired 38 vs 40 grain for each individual gunthe point of impact thing is more or less true. The ballistic data on the boxes states that although muzzle velocity is rated differently for 40, for 38, the velocity, drop, and energy at yards is identical. But what caused the grain groceries to disagree with the Ruger while the grain stuff functioned perfectly?
