Network loops can slow down or stop normal traffic on your network. When your network has a loop, the switch is connected to itself and network traffic is looping and growing continuously instead of reaching its destination and stopping.
To check for a loop in your network, check the port LEDs of your Nighthawk switch. If your port LEDs for all connected devices are blinking blue rapidly, your network has a loop.

To remove a network loop and restore normal operation: Check each cable that is connected to your Nighthawk switch until you find the cable that is connected at both ends. If you did not find a cable that is connected at both ends, look for two or more cables that are connected to the same device.
If you do not set up link aggregation on both devices first, connecting network devices to your switch with more than one cable creates a network loop. Unplug one or both ends of the cable that is causing the loop. The port LEDs stop blinking and your switch resumes normal operation.

Sadly I bought a used product. There is no purchase receipt. I can not discard this expensive product because of the firmware provided by Netgear.

I was able to still use WiFi with the 2. Slowly different devices started losing connection to that as well. I rebooted my router last night and now it turns on I get the blue LED lights and then the lights go off after about seconds. They turn back and then off again and this repeats. The issue remains.
I see a bunch of posts for the same problem here on the forum and some could be fixed with steps that I also tried and others required a replacement. Is this a known defect with the R? Is Netgear addressing these problems to replace these lemon routers? What are my steps Netgear? Apparently you only give 90 days warranty which is disappointing. If this can't be fixed easily I do expect a replacement since I've only had the router for a few months.
Just past the 90 day warranty of course. Go to Solution. Thanks for the response. Everything is working again. This topic has been closed to new posts due to inactivity.

We have purchased an R, and we just received our second replacement router through the RMA process. How can we configure the Nighthawk R as a Wireless Base Station, but also avoid the Router entering a perpetual boot loop?
Although we have returned two routers with this problem - we have not received information from Netgear why this is happening. The router is configured as a base station extender, second option. It's repeating bridge Network ID is renamed "Netgear-Basestation", and wireless security is disabled, required.
The other router has been configured as a wireless repeater, in WDS, etcwith one wireless interface connecting to the Nighthawk R, and its local devices plugged into ethernet ports, and connected to its second wireless connection I don't have a problem experimenting - I just don't know why the Nighthawk R gets sent into a perpetual boot loop.
Disable Wireless Repeating Function on the R The R should function as a pure router. Click here for our top support FAQs. Join Now Log In Help. Discussion stats. My has also decided to develope this issue Please understand no everyone understands you tech guys talk in a language that makes perfect sense to you but it's Greek to the average Kat. I'm sorry I did not feel like there was a need to explain a situation that's been discussed here from what I can tell dozens of times. It will not finish the boot, the amber light stay lit constantly That and I wanted more coverage in my 2 story home that the Apple always suffered with even with extenders in place that weren't a good option since they were seen by my equipment as a separate network and caused reconnection to work.
So it's off to Twitter, Snapchat, and any other place I can advertise your junk. I was saying that way to view where the problem happens was in responce to above posting I agree that there is a problem either the firmware or hardware so be it from the number of the postings about the r and other models.
What's too bad is the fact that Netgear knows exactly what the problem is and they refuse to do anything about it if your POS 12 month warranty is expired by even a day. I spent hours here reading last night only to see where they have replaced the ones that were still under warranty and even those poor people had to fight for weeks in some cases to get them to stop trying to screw them. Funny how they have issues locating your proof of purchase when you still have warranty but in cses like mine where my warranty was expired by a couple of months they located my post immediately.
Isn't that funny That's how a reputable company does business. I will make it my mission in life to make sure as many people do know how sorry these pieces of dog pile are from here till the day I die. I'm pissed. Thank you for the reply Had this thing lasted 3 to 5 years I would have thought nothing much about it dying. Electronics don't last forever. My own product has a power supply that I actually supply a unit 3 times the size needed for the job to make sure it gives a long life by oversizing so it loafs through life and never gets hot.
